About the Yeovil Community Arts Association
The Yeovil Community Arts Association is a registered Charity with the following aims:
- To promote and provide access to the Visual and Literary Arts in the local area
- To provide facilities and support for the local Creative Arts and Crafts
- To support and encourage Groups and Individuals in their pursuit of the Creative Arts and Crafts
The YCAA was originally based at 80 South Street, Yeovil and referred to as the 'Arts Centre', but reductions in local government subsidy forced the YCAA to vacate the building in December 2005 and seek an alternative base. This has been successfully achieved with our move to The Octagon Theatre, Yeovil.
The YCAA is now financially underpinned by the international Yeovil Literary Prize and the Yeovil Stage Play Prize with additional funds coming from other specific events. With this new security, the YCAA has expanded its remit to provide opportunities and facilities for those involved and interested in all the Creative Arts and Crafts, including literary pursuits, in the South Somerset area.
The activities of the YCAA complement those of The Octagon Theatre which naturally concentrates on the performing arts. It does however provide excellent facilities for many Creative Arts and Crafts events and activities. The Octagon Theatre has also taken over the role of administering and hosting regular Art Exhibitions.
The YCAA is manned by a dedicated team of volunteers from the local Creative Arts and Literary scene and includes John White - retired Octagon Theatre manager, the Yeovil Literary Prize organisers Margaret Graham and Jim Mitchell, Becky Chamberlin (treasurer), and Marcus Bishop from the Ottaker's Yeovil branch. In addition, representatives from the local Arts and Crafts Groups are also invited to join the Team thereby playing an active part in the development of their Arts and Crafts.
The YCAA is able to offer creative arts and crafts individuals, and groups, the following:
- showcase pages on this site to promote their activities
- links to their own site if applicable
- inclusive in a database of Creative Arts activity available here and the Yeovil Library
- qualifying sponsorship for activity and learning in the Creative Arts
